PRESS RELEASE
January 2, 2008

PUERTO RICAN FOLKLORIC DANCE is holding auditions during the month of January 2008 for entry-level Dance Apprentices and Advanced/Professional-level Musicians. Our nationally awarded, Austin-based performing company (a non-profit 501-C3), is one of the few in the country who can teach and perform the full cross-section of Puerto Rican traditional dance and music (Bomba, Plena, Seis, Danza and more) at a professional-level. Our company is recognized by the Institute of Puerto Rican Culture for our authenticity and high quality. Our professional-level company of dancers and musicians share the joy and liveliness of Puerto Rican culture at artistic and cultural events in the Austin community throughout the year.

DANCE Auditions:
This year we are looking for entry-level adults, both females and males, who are passionate about dancing and wish to be trained for membership in our company. Candidates must possess outstanding raw-dance talent and vibrant stage presence. Natural acting talent a plus! Those who can achieve and maintain the qualities listed below will succeed in this program. Previous knowledge of a latin/folkloric dance style and formal acting helpful but not necessary.

MUSIC Auditions:
Auditions for our Professional Music Ensemble are open to advanced and professional-level musicians only. As Puerto Rican music is very diverse, we are always interested in adding instruments of almost any kind and voices. Just about any instrument would have fun with us including accoustic guitars, accordian players, large and small percussion, strings, horns, winds, singers and more! As segments of Puerto Rico's traditional music are not in written form, musicians should have a proficiency for both playing with written music and playing by ear. Musicians in our program enjoy challenging themselves as artists and developing new skills. Those who play multiple instruments have added fun!

ADDITIONAL NOTES:
PRFDance company members are bonded together like a family. Only those with a serious commitment to attend regular rehearsals and a giving team spirit will be considered. Auditions are by appointment and include an interview and demonstration of talent. Participating artists who master these programs may be invited to become a member of the PRFDance Performing Company. This invitation is highly competitive and not guaranteed through these programs.
