What an honor to bring long time mentor, teacher, friend Joaquin Nieves,
director of Guateque de Puerto Rico to Austin to meet our performing
company "Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance!" Joaquin and members of Guateque
came in January 2003 and gave us a
master-level workshop
of traditional dance and music from the mountains of
Puerto Rico. Here are photos of our joint performance which culminated
this project, as well as the
backstage fun getting ready for
the show All was made possible by funding by the National Endowment,
the City of Austin, Texas Commission on the Arts, and the Institute of
Puerto Rican Culture, and others.
