What an honor to bring long time mentor, teacher, friend Joaquin Nieves, director of Guateque to Austin to meet our PRFDance performing company! Joaquin and members of Guateque were here in January 2003 for a master-level workshop of traditional dance and music from the mountains of Puerto Rico. Our project culiminated in a joint performance in July 2003.
The Guateque musicians who came to Austin for the workshop were MAGNIFICANT!
We were so excited to have Guateque with us that we learned the music and
choreography for
8 dances and estampas from the mountains of Puerto Rico in just 5 days!
Guateque returned to Austin in the summer for a joint performance to culminate this project!!
