PUERTO RICAN FOLKLORIC DANCE
Celebrando 2010 - Con Cuerdas, Bailes y Costumbres

On June 26-27, 2010, Puerto Rican Folkloric Dance presented a once in a lifetime, unique production that merged PRFDance with Masters from Guateque Ballet Folklorico de Puerto Rico and took our audience on a voyage across Puerto Rico's music and dance traditions. It was a culmination of a project that began during the Spring with a week-long, master-level workshop by Guateque on traditional dance, music, and history that was enjoyed by our performing company and teaching staff. Our Youth likewise experienced a workshop with Maestros from Puerto Rico in Spanish! Guateque returned in June, at the top of show week, to merge with PRFDance for heavy rehearsals and to polish the production we worked on all Spring. The performance debuted "El Velorio de Angelitos" featuring beautiful Jibaro music and rescued traditions from the mountains of Puerto Rico. Our lively estampa "Pelea de Gallos (The Sequel!)" and an Homenaje a la Musica Popular de Puerto Rico demonstrated the wide variety of traditions Puerto Rico can be proud of.

Celebrando marked the end of an exciting and successful 13th season filled with wonderful memories and another great project with Joaquin Nieves who has been training our PRFDance Director since 1998. Enjoy these performance pictures, as well as the photos from Show Week and the post-show Cast Party. We dedicated this year's performance as a big THANK YOU to God for the safe return of our cuatrista Adam from military duty in Afganistan. This performance was ALSO sponsored in part by IBM, Ruta Maya Coffee, Fiesta Mart, Country Inn & Suites-Round Rock, Ahora Si, The City of Austin through the Cultural Arts Division, and by a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts.
