Sembrando Herencia 2004
Puerto Rico Ever After
Sembrando Herencia is our annual full-length performance that passes on our
heritage to a new generation! This year Sembrando debuted Puerto Rico Ever
After, a PRFDance original musical written by PRFDance Director Ana Maria Maynard, about a Prince from a far off land who sails the world in search of his
true love and his call in life. He discovers the island of Puerto Rico,
and falls in love with a beautiful mountain cafetal (coffee plantation),
the humble and hardworking Jibaros who grew and harvested the coffee,
and of course, a sweet, humble mountain girl!
This original fairy-tale was grounded in
19th century Puerto Rican history which we enjoyed researching to create
this story! We were honored to share this project with special guest,
writer and bilingual storyteller, Elida Guardia Bonet, who not only contributed to the research, but also starred as our "Fairy Godmother!" We also enjoyed
working with Boyd Vance and Maurice Moore of Pro Arts Collective who provided an
acting workshop which
coached us and gave acting techniques and tools which we employed in
Puerto Rico Ever After! Enjoy photos of this debut performance below.
See more photos of the other half of
Sembrando Herencia when our Performing Company shared the stage with our
Performing Arts Students in a joyful celebration of traditional dance, music
and song.
We hold the banner high for Puerto Rico everyday!
Thank you in advance for your donation of any size!!
