Barrile Making Workshop with
Juan Fuentes & Papo DelValle

Barril-Making Workshop - Day Two

Overnight our small barrel dried. On the second day, we removed the braces and began working on the finish of our drum. This included many hours of sanding and then painting!

Removing the braces and hoping the barril doesn't fall apart!

Serious shaving of the wood begins!

Creating the metal rim that will hold the "cuero" (drum skin)

And the metal bands for around the barrel

Good example for school children everywhere -- learning math is VERY important!!

Fine-grain sanding begins

And continues throughout the day!

Everyone helps!

Time to put on the bands!

Signing the first authentic Bomba drum built in Austin before...

...Painting begins

Starting with the large drum we will build in southern style

Getting a headstart on tomorrow's work!!!

Fitting and installing the hardware on the smaller drum

See other days!
